The Fluid Group provide state-of-the-art Odour Dispersion Modelling to assess the impact of odour (or other pollutants) from Wastewater or Industrial Waste Treatment Plants on the surrounding area.

Accurate, and reliable odour dispersion modelling is a highly specialised business. We visit the site, measure a background level and use this to assess the existing site and the impact of future construction within, typically, a 3km area. Using AERMOD, a state-of-the art odour dispersion tool, developed by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and recommended by the UK Met Office, we obtain Meteorological data to examine how odour is likely to be dispersed in future. It is the standard tool for such assessment and can be an essential part of the planning permission process for waste, sludge and wastewater treatment sites. We then typically quantify the effectiveness of remedial work at reducing odour nuisance on the surrounding area against a National standard level.

We are used to liaising with Environmental Health Officers and for all parties, we offer a completely independent, impartial assessment of current and future odour nuisance. We provide a report and plots (see Figure below) of the 98%-ile odour contour boundary and specific odour levels predicted at the edge of your site or at the nearest receptors (dwellings or leisure amenities) outside the boundary.
